Biography
Dr. Kersi Chavda is a senior psychiatrist with over 35 years of clinical, academic, and advocacy experience in the field of mental health. He is the Past President of the Bombay Psychiatric Society and currently serves as a consultant psychiatrist at PD Hinduja National Hospital, Hinduja Healthcare, and Sir H.N. Reliance Foundation Hospital.
Dr. Chavda has played a pivotal role in shaping psychiatric policy and ethical practice in India through multiple leadership positions within the Indian Psychiatric Society (IPS). He has chaired national task forces on School Psychiatry & Counselling and LGBTQ+ Mental Health, contributing to the IPS position statement that was cited in the landmark Section 377 judgment. He has also served on IPS panels addressing ethical doctor–client boundaries and clinical guidelines for Autism Spectrum Disorders.
His primary area of interest is child and adolescent mental health, learning disabilities, and school psychiatry. He was also part of the first Maharashtra Government panel that established educational concessions for students with learning disabilities. Dr. Chavda is a TEDx speaker and continues to mentor, teach, and advocate for inclusive and ethical mental healthcare.
